Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 13, 2026
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies (local storage, session storage, and IndexedDB) that Papers AI, developed by Digital Science & Research Solutions Inc., uses across its website and editor. It complements our Privacy Policy. Papers AI is in beta, so this inventory is reviewed as features change.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
A cookie is a small text file a site stores in your browser. We also rely on related browser storage — localStorage, sessionStorage, and IndexedDB — which serve similar purposes (keeping you signed in, remembering preferences, measuring usage). We list all of them below for full transparency, not only classic HTTP cookies.
2. Categories we use
- Strictly necessary. Required for the site and editor to work — authentication, security and quota enforcement, remembering your preferences and your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Anonymous product analytics and error monitoring that help us understand usage and fix problems. Off until you consent.
- Marketing. Lifecycle and product emails based on your activity. Off until you consent; transactional emails are always sent.
3. Inventory
The website (served at the root path) sets the consent, theme, and beta-access entries, plus the analytics entries once you consent. The Papers AI editor (at /editor on the same domain) sets the authentication and device entries. Where a value is user-specific, the table shows the name pattern rather than a literal value.
| Name / pattern | Provider | Purpose | Category | Storage | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
dspace_cookie_consent | Papers AI (first-party) | Records your cookie choices (which categories you allowed, when, and the policy version) so we can honor them and know when to ask again. | localStorage | Up to 1 year (re-requested after 365 days or a material policy change). | |
titan_theme | Papers AI (first-party) | Remembers your light / dark / system appearance preference. | localStorage | Persistent until cleared. | |
titan:request_access_token | Papers AI (first-party) | Holds the token returned when you request beta access so you can continue the sign-up steps. | localStorage | Persistent until sign-up completes or cleared. | |
titan:tell_us_more_submitted | Papers AI (first-party) | Flags that you finished the optional "tell us more" step so we do not ask again. | localStorage | Persistent until cleared. | |
access_token | Papers AI (first-party, editor) | Your authenticated API session token — keeps you signed in and authorizes requests. | localStorage | Persistent until you sign out. | |
dspace_device_id | Papers AI (first-party, editor) | An anonymous device identifier used for security, abuse prevention, and usage-quota enforcement. | localStorage | Persistent (device-bound; preserved across sign-out). | |
Firebase Authentication (e.g. firebaseLocalStorageDb) | Google Firebase | Keeps you signed in by storing your authentication session and identity tokens. | IndexedDB + localStorage | Persistent until you sign out. | |
mp_<token>_mixpanel | Mixpanel | Anonymous product analytics — stores a random visitor id (distinct_id) and event data to measure feature usage and improve Papers AI. Never includes your document content. | Cookie | 1 year. | |
titan_landing_device_id | Papers AI (first-party) | An anonymous device identifier attached to marketing-site analytics events (separate from the editor id). | localStorage | Persistent until cleared. | |
Sentry session replay (e.g. sentryReplaySession) | Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) | Error and performance monitoring in the Papers AI editor, including sampled session replay to diagnose crashes. Sentry sets no cookies. | sessionStorage | Session (cleared when you close the tab). | |
Customer.io | Customer.io | Lifecycle and product emails based on your activity. Configured server-side; no Customer.io cookie is set in your browser today. Transactional emails are always sent. | None (server-side) | N/A |
4. Managing your choices
When analytics or marketing tools are active you are shown a consent banner before any non-essential technology loads. You can change or withdraw consent at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer — withdrawing is as easy as granting. Strictly necessary entries are always on because the service cannot function without them.
You can also clear cookies and site data through your browser settings. Doing so signs you out and resets your preferences.
5. Third-party providers
Some technologies are set by third parties that process data under their own policies: Google Firebase (authentication), Mixpanel (analytics), Sentry (error monitoring), and Customer.io (email). We do not sell your data.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Papers AI evolves. Material changes are communicated in the application, and — where required — we will ask you to renew your consent.
